Turkey Street Community Church Building Project
The Project
For the last year Turkey Street Community Church (TSCC) has been meeting in a disused Mission Hall on Turkey Street. Already the church has a growing congregation that meets on Sunday mornings, and they regularly welcome in people who live on the estate to join them. They run Bible Studies, support groups, and community meals.
TSCC has been renting the Mission Hall from London City Mission (LCM), but the building needs to be sold. LCM has granted Together For Mission an exclusive three-year lease with an option to purchase the site (which consists of a church hall, and a house which has been already renovated by LCM).
We have explored other options as a space to meet, and there are none as central, as significant, and as reasonably priced as this Mission Hall.
The price to puchase the site is £1.1 million. The agreement with LCM has financial incentives built-in to encourage early activation of the option to purchase by mid 2026.
The Plan
Together For Mission, along with our partner church in Valleydale, Alabama USA, are aiming to raise £600,000. Valleydale has already generously pledged £100,000.
We intend to employ a professional fundraiser to lead efforts to raise £250,000 and hope to secure a loan to cover £250,000.
That leaves us £500,000 to raise.
Our goal is to raise the full amount by Summer 2026, as this would offer the best financial outcome.
Therefore, we are asking all who are interested in supporting Turkey Street Community Church to prayerfully consider giving offferings towards the project over and above their regular giving.
Biblical Principles of Giving
Paul in 2 Corinthians 8 commends the Macedonian church for their giving.
The Christians in Macedonia gave with a rich generosity which flowed from:
- an overflowing joy in their salvation (v2)
- an urgent desire to share what they had in order that they might serve others (v4)
- a sincere love for others which followed the example of Jesus (v8-9)
Their giving:
- exceeded expectation (v5)
- was both within their means and sacrificial (v2-3, 11-12)
- gave opportunity to show their love and a united desire to spread the gospel.
We would love for you to consider whether giving towards the cost of purchasing this site for use by Turkey Street Community Church might be a way that you could follow the example of the Macedonian believers, to share what you have with others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says: “Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under complusion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Response Form
I / we would like to give to Together For Mission (registered charity number 1194815) for the purpose of acquiring the London City Mission building to use as a meeting and ministry space for the church.
In the event that Together For Mission are unable to purchase the property, or the funds raised exceed the requirement for this project, then the funds will be used for other activities and church development work undertaken by Together For Mission.
